Which CPR Class Do You Need? A Guide for Professionals
When it comes to CPR and First Aid training, selecting the right course based on your profession is crucial. Whether you’re a teacher, coach, construction worker, healthcare provider, or parent, knowing which certification best suits your needs ensures you meet employer requirements and are prepared for emergencies. Below, we break down the different types of CPR and First Aid classes and who should take them.

Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED
These classes are designed for individuals and professionals who need CPR and First Aid certification for general workplace safety, regulatory compliance, or personal preparedness.
Who Should Take This Course?
- Teachers & School Staff – Many schools require CPR and First Aid certification for teachers and administrators. We are PQAS Approved in Pennsylvania for early childhood educators.
- Coaches & Fitness Professionals – Essential for those responsible for student-athletes and gym members.
- Construction Workers – OSHA often requires CPR certification for safety compliance.
- Childcare Providers & Parents – A must-have for those caring for children and infants.
- General Workplace Employees – Businesses seeking to create a safe work environment should train their staff.
This course covers adult, child, and infant CPR, AED use, and basic First Aid skills, equipping participants with life-saving knowledge applicable to everyday emergencies.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals
Basic Life Support (BLS) is a higher level of CPR training designed for medical professionals who may need to perform CPR in a clinical setting. BLS certification is required for those working in healthcare and emergency response fields.
Which BLS Certification Should You Get?
We offer two types of BLS certification programs: American Heart Association (AHA) BLS and American Red Cross (ARC) BLS. While both certifications provide high-quality training, employers may have specific requirements regarding which organization’s certification they accept.
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider
- Hospital staff (nurses, doctors, medical assistants)
- EMTs and paramedics
- Medical schools or nursing students enrolled in a healthcare program
- Physicians and physician assistants
- Inpatient healthcare providers
American Red Cross (ARC) BLS
- Dental professionals
- Pharmacists doing immunizations and injections
- Occupational therapists
- Physical therapists
- Chiropractors
- Outpatient clinic staff
Because healthcare facilities may have specific certification requirements, we always recommend providers check with your employer before selecting a course. In general, hospital systems and inpatient facilities require American Heart Association BLS, while outpatient clinics, dental offices, and allied health professionals often accept American Red Cross BLS.
First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
Simply put, you want to become an instructor and teach American Red Cross courses for people at your work (Authorized Provider), or to your community (Licensed Training Provider).
How to Choose the Right CPR Class
If you’re unsure which course is best for your job, ask your employer or regulatory board what certification is required. Many healthcare providers are mandated to have BLS certification, while non-healthcare professionals typically need Standard First Aid & CPR training.
At our training center, we offer both Standard First Aid & CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) training through the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Our expert instructors will ensure you receive the most up-to-date, hands-on training to prepare you for any emergency.
